Changes to the Steam Trading System: What is Trade Protection?

Valve rolls out a new safety feature called Trade Guard to protect users from item fraud on Steam.

Changes to the Steam Trading System: What is Trade Protection?

The digital items we collect, trade, or buy while playing games are no longer just cosmetic; they hold significant value. That's why Steam has taken a new step to protect players: Steam Trade Protection.

What is Trade Protection?

Trade Protection is a new system introduced by Steam to increase user security. This feature, available in some supported games, allows trades to be undone within a certain timeframe. It's specifically designed to help users whose accounts have been compromised recover lost items. This allows them to at least intervene in recent trades in the unlikely event of an unforeseen situation. You can find all the details about this new system in Steam's official article .

What is Steam Trade Protection?

Steam's Trade Protection System, launched on July 15, 2025, allows CS2 trades to be reversible for 7+1 days.

Why 7 days sometimes and 8 days other times?

The Steam Trade Protection system holds trades for 7 days. However, due to the time difference between Steam's servers (America, GMT-8) and Turkey (GMT+3), this duration can be extended by +1 day (24 hours). As a result, the balance transfer period is 7 + 1 days.

What Does This Mean?

Your CS2 purchases are now much more secure. When you trade a skin, it becomes "protected" for 7 days. During this period, you can use it, but you can't trade it, send it to anyone else, or sell it.

Why? Because in the unlikely event that your account is stolen, for example, this 7-day period gives you the chance to get your trades back.

Let's say someone with malicious intent accesses your account, you don't have to worry. If you have Steam Trade-Protected items, you can undo those trades with a single click by going to your Steam Trade History page. However, after this action, your account will temporarily go into security mode: You won't be able to trade or make market transactions for 30 days.

What happens if I cancel a trade that is under trade protection?

ATTENTION! If you cancel a trade under protection:

  • All of your protected trades will be cancelled. All skins under protection will be returned to their original state. Your account will receive a 30-day trade ban, and you will not be able to trade on the Steam Community Market.

Can I change the charm/sticker/name tag on a skin under trade protection?

  • NO. No accessories (charm, sticker, or name tag) can be added, removed, or changed on a skin under trade protection. If a cancellation occurs, your skin will be returned to your inventory in its original state.

Only in CS2 for now

Currently, this feature is only available in CS2, but Valve plans to bring this system to other games in the future.

A Little Note:

  • You cannot use both protected and unprotected products in the same exchange.
  • The 15-day waiting period still applies to transactions made without mobile approval.
  • Once the 7-day protection period expires, the items will return to normal and can no longer be returned.

In short: Steam protects you from the risk of your digital belongings being stolen. Thanks to this new feature, your skins are always safe.

So How Does ByNoGame Support This Process?

In addition to this security process offered by Steam, we at ByNoGame go one step further to protect players.

To make CS2 trades safer and more transparent, we've developed the "🛡️ ByNoGame Buyer Protection " system.

What is “ByNoGame Buyer Protection”?

As ByNoGame, our top priority is for players to be able to shop with peace of mind.

That's why we developed the "🛡️ ByNoGame Buyer Protection " system to be fully compatible with Steam's 7-day Trade Protection .

Thanks to this system:

  • When the seller transfers the CS2 skin to you via trade, the payment is held in the secure pool for 7 (+1) days.
  • If the trade is reversed during this time, your money will be refunded.
  • Once the trade becomes irreversible, the payment is automatically transferred to the seller's account.
  • This creates a fair, safe and transparent system for both buyers and sellers.

What happens if the SELLER cancels a trade that is under trade protection? What are the ByNoGame sanctions?

  • ATTENTION! All your protected trades will be canceled, all skins with trade protection periods will be returned your account will be banned from trading for 30 days , and you will not be able to trade on the Steam community market.
  •
  • In accordance with "Buyer Protection", ByNoGame removes all advertisements of the SELLER and suspends its store for 7+1 days.
  • The Trade URL that performs this action will be locked throughout the site and will not be able to sell from other accounts during this time.

What should I do when the SELLER cancels a trade that is under trade protection?

You can inform us by using the " Apply for ByNoGame Buyer Protection " button under the relevant order on the My Orders page or by following the steps: Create a Support Request > Report a Problem > " ByNoGame Buyer Protection ".

  • As soon as we receive your application, we check your process by prioritizing it.
  • If we confirm that the seller has canceled the trade-in offer, the relevant order amount will be refunded to your ByNoGame Wallet as soon as possible.
  • In accordance with "Buyer Protection", ByNoGame removes all advertisements of the SELLER and suspends its store for 7 days.
  • The Trade URL that performs this action will be locked throughout the site and will not be able to sell from other accounts during this time.

What should I add visually when applying for ByNoGame Buyer Protection?

In your Steam trade history, the relevant skin will appear as " returned to their previous owner."

  • When applying for Buyer Protection, you will need to upload an image proving that the SELLER canceled the trade:
Steam

Why can I receive my earnings after 8 days?

  • The Trade Protection System, which Steam implemented on July 15, 2025 , made CS2 trades reversible for 7+1 days.
  • Since the SELLER can withdraw the exchange within this 7+1 day period, we have created ByNoGame Buyer Protection and we keep the amount we collected from the BUYER in the ByNoGame Safe Pool to be transferred to the SELLER until the end of this period.

How Can I Track My Earnings in the ByNoGame Secure Pool During the Trade Protection Process?

On your My Sales & Deliveries page, for completed listings, you will see labels such as "DELIVERED" or "STEAM TRADE PROTECTION", along with the number of days remaining for payment.

For earnings under "STEAM TRADE PROTECTION," the remaining days for the payment will also be displayed.

At the top of your My Sales & Deliveries page, you can see your total balance and your 'Trade Protection Pending Balance' separately.

When the 7+1 days are up, the right to retract the trade expires, and we will automatically transfer your "Trade Protection Pending Balance" to your ByNoGame Wallet.

💡 No action is required on your part during this process. Your only task is to submit the trade offer through Steam and not retract it during the 7+1 days. That’s all.

Can the Buyer withdraw the amount pending in the ByNoGame Safe Pool?

  • NO. There is no possibility of the buyer withdrawing the payment. Your money is 100% secured by ByNoGame and will be held for you for 7+1 days.

What happens if the BUYER cancels a trade that is under trade protection? What are the ByNoGame sanctions?

  • ATTENTION! All your protected trades will be canceled, all skins with trade protection periods will be returned your account will be banned from trading for 30 days , and you will not be able to trade on the Steam community market.
  • In such a case, ByNoGame may temporarily/permanently suspend this membership.
  • ByNoGame deducts 25% of the product price from the BUYER as a transaction security fee and transfers it to the SELLER's wallet in order to compensate for the SELLER's grievances.
  • ByNoGame collects a service fee from the BUYER, which is 10% of the amount of the product purchased by the BUYER.

What should I do when a BUYER cancels a trade that is under trade protection?

Click Details for your sale on the My Sales & Listings page. You can let us know by clicking the Flag icon in the bottom right corner or by following the steps below: Create a Support Request > Report a Problem > About the Buyer.

  • As soon as we receive your application, we check your process by prioritizing it.
  • If we confirm that the buyer has canceled the trade offer, 25% of the amount pending in ByNoGame Buyer Protection will be deducted as a transaction security fee and the money will be refunded to your ByNoGame Wallet as soon as possible.
  • In addition, ByNoGame may temporarily or permanently suspend the BUYER's membership as a penal sanction.
